Ⅳ International Competition for Young Pianists
DENIS MATSUEV Artistic director of the Competition
Sergey Leonidovich Dorensky, an
outstanding pianist and teacher, head of the special piano department of the Moscow
Conservatory, professor, people's artist of the RSFSR, and a permanent jury
member of Grand Piano Competition, passed away.
The name of Sergey Dorensky has long been
synonymous with the modern Russian piano school, its successes and
achievements.
The play of this outstanding pianist was
called simple and exciting, his interpretations were brightly individual and
deeply musical. The piano was for him "a means of transmitting to the
public the most intimate impulses of the human soul."
But most of his life Sergey Leonidovich
devoted to his students. The decoration and pride of the Russian scene, they
together with the teacher created the history of Russian pianism: Denis
Matsuev, Nikolay Lugansky, Ekaterina Mechetina, Vadim Rudenko, Pavel Nersesyan,
Philipp Kopachevsky, Alexander Malofeev and many others. Dorensky was often
seen at the concerts of his students, and even when he was not among the
listeners, he was invisibly present in the hall.
Today we speak words of sincere compassion
to the family and friends of Sergey Leonidovich.
The memory of the great pianist and
teacher will always live in his recordings and his students.
